TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following a visit to the Manggarai sluice gate, Governor Anies Baswedan said that Ciliwung River’s dangerous water levels had gone through its critical point with receding water level at Bogor’s Katulampa Dam.
“The peak water level at Manggarai sluice gate at 11:00 measured at 890 cm or Alert level II. That figure persisted until 4 in the afternoon and then the water began to recede. This means we already passed Ciliwung’s critical point,” said Anies in Manggarai, Central Jakarta on April 26.
Following news of rising water at Katulampa Dam, which eventually ended in Jakarta, Anies immediately ordered city administrators to guard areas in the vicinity of rivers that might cause floods, especially the Ciliwung River.
The water flowing from Bogor rendered several locations in Jakarta partially submerged in floods. Reports said the level of the floodwaters reached 2.5-3 meters. However, the governor was grateful that the floods did not happen concurrently with high tides in Jakarta’s northern coastal areas.
