TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - During lunch earlier today, vice-presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno and Prosperous Justice Party's (PKS) central executive board (DPP) chairman Mardani Ali Sera ate the Minang rice dish Nasi Padang.
Sandiaga said that his choice of lunch was a gesture of support for the Nusantara culinary following public calls on social media to boycott the dish following Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin’s defeat in West Sumatra province, from which the dish originates.
Based on the General Elections Commission's (KPU) website pemilu2019.kpu.go.id today, the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin ticket only managed to clinch 258,597 votes in the region. Meanwhile, the Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno pair secured 1,679,768 votes.

“May I remind you that we should not react to the presidential election in a childish manner and we should respond to it maturely. We must support Rendang (one of the many ingredients in a Nasi Padang) that is acknowledged as a world-class food,” said Sandiaga.
“This is our attempt to support Padang restaurants that are feared to be left by their customers, but it turns out they still attract many,” said the former Jakarta deputy governor.
