TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Leader of the 212 Alumni Brotherhood Slamet Maarif, said that the Brotherhood has advised Presidential Candidate Prabowo Subianto to postpone his meeting with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo until after the election vote count is officially announced.
Slamet's response follows numerous calls from Vice President Jusuf Kalla and notable Islamic figures for both men to meet in an attempt to cool down the current political situation.
"Well, if they both meet as fellow countrymen, citizen, and Muslim, we wouldn't mind. But [the election] is in its ongoing process, so we advise Pak Prabowo to postpone until after the official result has been announced," said Slamet in South Jakarta on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
Slamet prefers to treat the current situation as a time to guard the C1 vote count by the General Elections Commission (KPU), gather evidence of elections fraud and provide proof. He advised the Jokowi camp to do the similar thing.
"The condition down there is still very risky because evidence of cheating is exponential," said Slamet who strongly believes that Prabowo is following the group's advice and Ulemas.
Figures that have called for the "truce meeting" lately among others include Nahdlatul Ulama leader Said Aqil Siradj, Muhammadiyah chairman Haedar Nashir, and former Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD.
