TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police deployed around one thousand personnel to secure the rally staged by people joined in Aksi Tolak Pemilu Curang (Act against Election Fraud) in front of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) headquarter on Jalan M.H. “[We assigned] some 1000 officers,” said Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono via a short message on Wednesday morning, April 24.

According to Argo, the demonstration was initiated by a number of mass organizations as referred to the letter received by the police. Each of which brought hundreds of participants, ranging from 100 to 200 people.

A spokesman from one of the mass organization, Ustad Abu Jibril Fuad, said via a phone call that the act did not specifically relate to support one of the two candidates of the 2019 presidential election.

According to him, the protesters in today’s rally came from various elements of society. “The point is, we want an honest and fair election,” Abu Jibril asserted. “Do not link it with a certain candidate pair.”
