KAI Sets 2,500 Free Seats for Eid Homecoming

TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - State-run railway company Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) in tandem with SOE Ministry provided 2,500 free seats in its Eid homecoming program.

The public relation manager of KAI regional operation (Daop) 8 Surabaya, Suprapto, said the free seat allocation was increased by 65 percent, compared to the last year’s 1,520 seats.

“This year’s free homecoming program is established for a departure date on May 26-27 (Day -9 and D-10 of Eid el-Fitr) and the return travel on June 15-16 (D+9 and D+10),” explained Suprapto in a press release on Tuesday, April 23.

Would-be passengers willing to obtain the free ticket can register themselves starting from April 26 until May 8 online via mudikbumn.co.id.

Meanwhile for Surabaya area, the homecoming with SOE program is established for departure date on June 15 and 16 using KA Kertajaya Lebaran with the route of Surabaya Pasarturi - Pasar Senen, Jakarta.

“A total of 310 seats will be available for free on June 15, and 314 seats on June 16. The registration date begins on April 26 until May 8,” he added.

KAI president director Edi Sukmoro said the program was part of his corporate’s concern toward the public and an effort to reduce traffic accident and congestion during 2019 Eid homecoming season.

“We call the people to be aware of parties asking for a fee during the administrative process and when on this free homecoming trip,” Edi concluded.
