5G to Go Live in Indonesia October 2019

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will tap the fifth generation of internet network frequency 5G after the World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRC) that is slated to take place in Egypt, October 2019.
“The conference that is held every four years decides a frequency band of a technology. We are waiting for WRC event,” said Director General of Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology (SDPPI), Ismail, when met in Qualcomm Forum in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 23.
The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) planned to make use of the existing 3.5Ghz middle band frequency for satellite, and that will be consolidated to 5G network. “We will set 3.5 networks to be used in satellite, and so 5G can be utilized together,” Ismail explained.

However, the implementation of the advanced digital cellular network would not be arranged for public consumers but industry sector in advance. The commercialization of the latest network would be depended on the telecommunication operators, namely Telkomsel, XL, Indosat, and Tri, that had undergone the trial test.
Qualcomm Indonesia Country Manager Shannedy Ong during the event said the main obstruction of 5G technology application in Indonesia was due to lack of spectrum location.
