TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) Governor Agus Widjojo, a retired army general, expressed his hopes on a meeting to take place between Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Prabowo Subianto, two men who fiercely competed in the 2019 Presidential Election.
“We can’t force it to happen. But if the meeting can actually come to fruition, it would be really admirable to suppress the polarization among the public. But it all depends on the willingness and goodwill of both men,” said Agus Widjojo on Tuesday, April 23.
Agus maintained that his office cannot coerce the meeting between two presidential candidates since it is beyond what the institution is tasked to do.
He said the institution believes that Jokowi and Prabowo are the best the nation has offered and believes that the two camps always put forth the nation in their mind.
“The maturity in practicing democracy, including the maturity on understanding the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (unity in diversity) saying, is being greatly tested after we underwent Election Day on April 17,” said Agus.
