Anies Baswedan Protested over Revising PBB Policy Issued by Ahok

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of Jakartans opposed the policy issued by Governor Anies Baswedan in which eliminating the zero percent tax of land and building (PBB) for houses or buildings with the taxable value of the property (NJOP) at less than Rp 1 billion.
On April 15, 2019, Anies issued a gubernatorial decree (Pergub) in which stipulating the revision of Pergub No. 259 of 2015 concerning the PBB reduction for houses priced below Rp1 billion. The new policy will take effect in 2020.
“Of course we object it. We pay taxes for almost all facilities, [such as] motorcycle and car. How come there is a tax for the house. If it’s possible, the PBB tax should be still free,” said Erry Syarif Hidayat (61), a citizen in Kramat Sentiong, Central Jakarta, to Tempo, on Tuesday, April 23.

Other citizens named Nobi Asshofa seconded Erry’s statement. Nobi who lived in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, understood the reason why the city administration revising the policy. However, he demanded tax reliefs for houses with lower NJOP.
“For example, houses with NJOP below Rp500 million will be freed from tax,” he hoped.
The regulation on zero-percent land and building taxes for homes priced below Rp 1 billion was ratified by previous Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama. Ahok said the policy was aimed at easing the burden of Jakartans from paying pricey tax for houses.
According to Anies Baswedan, the city administration commonly revised a regulation each year, and so it is possible to revise the past regulation that extends the free PBB. “The important thing is, the PBB is still free in 2019,” Anies said.
