TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Election Commission (KPU) chairman Arief Budiman said his side would propose a compensation distribution for members of polling station working committees (KPPS) who died during and after the 2019 General Elections’ voting day. The compensation amounted to Rp30-36 million.
“We plan to visit Finance Ministry tomorrow (Tuesday). KPU secretary-general will meet the ministry officials,” said Arief in the KPU office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, April 22.
In the meeting, Arief added, his commission would recommend Rp30-36 million as the compensation for the families of officers who died, Rp30 million maximum for officers who suffered a disability, and Rp16 million for injured officers.

The mechanism of the compensation distribution and the budget provision would be also discussed in the meeting considering the board did not have the term compensation in its budget.
“So from which the budget post, the compensation can be taken?” Arief said, asserting that the KPU could use the savings or unused budget.
As of date, a total of 91 members of KPPS passed away and 374 others had fallen ill that allegedly due to fatigue from their hard works during and after the 2019 General Elections’ voting day.
