TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central board of Muhammadiyah has spoken about the people power movement echoed by National Mandate Party (PAN) senior politician Amien Rais.
The board chairman Haedar Nashir asserted all community elements must respect people’s choice in the 2019 general elections. People must also appreciate the work of the election committee, KPU, as the authorized institution to handle the voting count and announce the election result.
“Muhammadiyah believes in the regulation and election mechanism that have become our corridor in the election race,” said Haedar in a conference press in the organization office, Thursday, April 18.
Therefore, if there is an issue or dispute related to the election, Indonesia’s second largest Islamic organization deemed a legal proceeding should be the only way taken by parties who claimed to have been plagued.
“We believe in political elites, community, and power in this nation including those who are contesting in the race will not mobilize masses or carry out any action against the constitution that may beset the democracy process the country has been through,” he underlined.
Haedar further said that his organization also has faith on Indonesians that no one would take action against the law if they were dissatisfied with the election because the nation is mature enough as the country had experienced 12 elections.
“So, such political statements is just a part of democracy dynamic,” he said, adding that his side hoped all communities monitor the election process until the official announcement issued based on the prevailing constitution.
