TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Wiranto, has barred people from holding any parade relative to the 2019 general elections—both legislative and presidential ones—to avert possible clashes.
“Please refrain from doing so because it could trigger a clash,” Wiranto said on Monday, April 15, 2019.
Wiranto said the prohibition would be in effect until the General Elections Commission (KPU) completed its vote tally and announced the victor of the 2019 general elections.
He added the police would not issue any permit to hold such parades prior to the KPU’s official announcement. He explained that holding such campaigns before the announcement would violate Law No. 9 Year 1998 on freedom of expression in public.

National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, meanwhile, said the prohibition also affected any protest rally against the election results. He added alleged violations in the elections should be reported to the Elections Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) or the Constitutional Court (MK).
“If there is mob mobilization, the police will not allow it,” Tito Karnavian said.
