TEMPO.CO, Pekanbaru - The Public Works and Housing Office in Riau Province has ordered a temporary closure of the Siak IV Bridge for safety reasons after around 100 bolts of the bridge, inaugurated in February 2019, had been stolen.
"The bridge bolts have been stolen, and the missing bolts may affect the bridge's strength. Therefore, for safety reasons, we are going to close it for public temporarily," Head of the Riau Public Works and Housing Office's Road and Bridge Division Yunnas Haris said on Sunday.

Haris said the related authorities actually conduct a random surveillance over the bridge but they could not do that around the clock. Therefore, the people's participation in securing the bridge was indispensable.
Inaugurated in February this year, the 800 meter-long Siak IV Bridge connecting areas within the fast-developing city of Pekanbaru is named after the Sultan Abdul Jalil Alamuddin Syah Bridge but it is more popularly called "the Marhum Bukit Bridge".
