Police, Military Intensify Patrol Nearing Indonesia Election

15 April 2019 12:29 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has increased its security patrol as early prevention on any possible threats nearing the country’s election day on April 17. The patrol is a joint effort between police and the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).

According to Metro Jaya Police Chief Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono, the patrols target locations that are prone to social conflicts. He explained that these spots include shopping areas, voting ballots (TPS), General Election Commission (KPU) headquarters, and Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) headquarters.

“It is across places likely to cause social conflicts between groups of people,” said Gatot following mandatory police and TNI assembly at JIExpo Kemayoran on Sunday, April 14.

The areas covered by the joint security personnel include districts under the Metro Jaya Police Department jurisdiction such as Jakarta, Bekasi, Tangerang, and Depok.

In further securing the Election Day on Wednesday, April 17, police and Kodam Jaya military command will place 38,000 personnel on guard that are stationed across 63,000 voting ballots (TPS) across Jakarta and its vicinity.
