Bawaslu Wary of Populated Areas Prone to Election Violation

15 April 2019 06:55 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) is in the midst of registering areas in the city that might experience electoral violation such as election fraud or vote rigging.

“We are mapping out the areas that might see election fraud. Not only that voting ballots prone to violations are also anticipated,” said Jakarta Bawaslu Muhammad Jufri at Central Jakarta on Sunday.

The criteria of locations prone to violations, he explained, include areas with a high population density and voting ballots located at flats or apartment blocks. Meanwhile, one other example he revealed might cause an election fraud are in areas prone to flooding.

“Areas like this must be anticipated, places shouldn’t flood during an election,” said Jufri.

Based on Bawaslu`s observation, North Jakarta classifies as the area most prone to election frauds backed by its highly populated area and the fact that the agency already handled two cases of violation in 2019 alone on money politics and politicizing places for religious worships.

Jufri later said that a team from the agency will patrol the city until the election on April 17, which will be aided by the Jakarta police, Gakkumdu (Integrated Law Enforcement) team, and local public figures.
