TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A commissioner of the Yogyakarta Election Commission RM Nufrianto Aris Munandar, was fired by the Election Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP) after proven of committing sexual harassment against a female member of the District Voters Committee (PPK).
"We received the information on early 2019, and then report it to the DKPP on February 2019. Because only DKPP has the authority to make a decision," said Yogyakarta Election Commission Chief Hamdan Kurniawan on Thursday, April 11, 2019.
Nufrianto committed the harassment on April 2018. During that time, the victim, who was riding on Nufrianto's car, was suddenly harassed. The victim had only reported the crime to the Yogyakarta Election Commission on December 2018.
After receiving the report, the election commission later summoned the perpetrator and victim to make clarifications. Following the discovery of an ethical violation in the report, the election commission forwarded the report to the DKPP, which resulted in the firing.
"So this is an ethics code violation reported by us. An article was violated, it was on maintaining the dignity of the commission," Hamdan said.
Hamdan stated that the firing will not affect the performance of the Yogyakarta Election Commission. Before a former letter of dismissal is issued, the perpetrator has received a temporary dismissal letter from the General Election Commission at the end of March 2019.
Hamdan further said that finding a replacement for the dismissed official will be the authority of the General Election Commission. He added that if the General Election Commission is yet to find a replacement, the remaining four commissioners will be sufficient. "The work from the [perpetrator’s] division has been carried out by the other commissioner. In principle, the task is still ongoing," Hamdan said.
Tempo had tried to contact Nufrianto Aris Munandar but still receive no response.
