Romahurmuziy Pleads Pretrial Motion; KPK Set to Move

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The former chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Romahurmuziy submitted a pretrial lawsuit in the alleged bribery case at the Religious Affairs Ministry. The initial trial will take place in South Jakarta District Court on April 22, 2019.

“The KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) has received the letter from the court regarding the challenge filed by M Romahurmuziy,” said the agency spokesman Febri Diansyah in his office, Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 10.

Romahurmuziy or Romy pleaded a pretrial motion to challenge his status as a suspect set by the anti-graft body in the bribery case. KPK suspected Romy received Rp250 million from the ministry’s East Java office head Haris Hasanuddin and Rp50 million from the ministry’s Gresik office head Muhammad Muafaq Wirahadi to rig the result of the higher-up position selection in the ministry. Hasan and Muafaq were named suspect as bribers.

Febri noted that his institution would further study the motion based on the procedure and ensured it would be ready to deal with the legal challenge.

Moreover, Febri believed the sting operation established by the KPK in arresting Romahurmuziy had based on the procedure and that the anti-graft body possessed adequate pieces of evidence to name the latter suspect. “We are sure about that,” he stressed.
