TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Commission (KPU) firmly slams rumors of voting ballots already being counted overseas ahead of the actual voting day on April 17, 2019, and maintains that this info cannot be accounted for.
“Information of votes being calculated overseas that has spread like wildfire among society is unaccountable information,” said Hasyim in a press release on Wednesday, April 10.
He stressed that any form of vote counting done overseas will follow KPU’s Decree No. 644/2019 on early voting that is set by law between April 8 to 14.
Furthermore, Hasyim said that Indonesians overseas will undergo three procedures to participate in the 2019 general elections; starting by personally casting their votes at locations spread either at an Indonesian Embassy, Consulate General, or at an Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) headquarter.
The second option available is casting votes through a traveling voting ballot (KSK) located near residences and lastly is by sending votes by mail.
The commission asserts that votes are currently being cast, not counted, in several countries such as Sana'a, Yemen, Panama City, Quito, Bangkok, and Songkhla.
