TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara expressed his proud of the ride-hailing platform company, Go-Jek, for being the first startup in achieving a decacorn status in Indonesia.
“Alhamdulillah (Praise the God) for it and I think we are proud of it. Why? Because it’s not just a milestone for the national but for regional as well,” said the minister when met in Pangandaran, on Tuesday, April 9.
The international research institution CB Insights in its report The Global Unicorn Club listed Go-Jek in 19th position of the world’s startup that surpassed decacorn status after gaining a valuation of US$10 billion.

As in the level of Southeast Asia, the first title belongs to Singapore-based firm Grab, that is Go-Jek’s rival.
The presence of Go-Jek in Southeast Asia, according to Rudiantara, is proof of people’s and investor’s trust, both domestic and abroad.
“[That because of] the investor trust to continue investing in a new business model, which is not a brick and mortar, or conventional business. This shows investor confidence in Indonesia,” Rudiantara concluded.
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has become a regulator and facilitator of startup firms. To jack up the growth of startups, the ministry determined to cut the licensing procedure in establishing a business.
