TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla personally deemed both candidates in the 2019 presidential election are adopting similar strategies to attract more votes nearing the election day.
Jusuf Kalla further broke it down to a strategy widely accepted as an Islamic strategy.
“Both adopt the same strategy, but implement it differently,” said Jusuf Kalla today at his VP headquarters in the North Medan Merdeka Street, Central Jakarta.
The strategic pandering of both Jokowi and Prabowo, he says, could be observed by the incumbent’s choice in picking an ulema as his running-mate while the opposition chooses to do it through activities such as massive morning prayers and other religious rituals.
“One uses more blatant Islamic symbols,” said the vice president.
In response to the open letter from Susilo “SBY” Bambang Yudhoyono who partially disagrees with Prabowo’s strategy, Jusuf Kalla backed SBY’s move and called it a positive attitude shown by the sixth Indonesian president.
“I think what [SBY] mentioned in the letter is good. It’s meant to unite us despite adopting different strategies. Pak SBY’s letter is a good thing,” said Jusuf Kalla.
