World Leaders with Most Twitter Followers

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Twitter has become a social media that is inseparable from politics. It also is one of the most used on a daily basis with active users reaching 321 million a month.

World leaders have also taken on Twitter, having their accounts blue-checked as the sign of verification. 

U.S. President Donald Trump is the country leader with the most followers, while Indonesia's own Joko Widodo is at 6^th place.

Trump's Twitter account @realDonaldTrump as per April has 59.5 million followers. Trump is followed by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with handler @narendramodi, who has 46.7 million followers.

In the third spot is Pope Francis @Pontifex, head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State, with 17.9 million followers.

President Joko Widodo chose his famous portmanteau @Jokowi as the Twitter handler. He has 11.1 million followers.

Meanwhile, France President Emmanuel Macron is at 10^th place after UK Prime Minister Theresa May, who uses the official twitter name of her residence and office—named after its famous address—@10DowningStreet
