TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Leader Megawati Soekarnoputri attended Indramayu’s grand harvest and Kuningan botanical garden to campaign against the spread of hoaxes.
She said that it was done to disenchant people away from the spread of hoax and false information nearing the country’s democratic phase on April 17, the presidential election (Pilpres) and general election (Pemilu).
“This time, the general election is really different from past elections where hoax spreads have intensified and it seems that it is nuanced to spark public rupture,” said Megawati on Thursday, April 4.
Other than addressing the issue of hoaxes, Megawati voiced her concern on the rise of expressions of hate in society, according to her, that is known for its utter politeness.
She then expressed her bewilderment on the recent trend where the spite and hates speeches are also often met in religious worship locations.
“Why inflame God’s house with words that are inappropriate. The house of Allah must be respected,” said Megawati who led a political campaign to two locations in Kuningan and Indramayu on Thursday.
