TEMPO.CO, Tanjung Lesung - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya set a target of one million tourist arrivals in the special economic zone Tanjung Lesung despite the region was recently hit by the tsunami in December 2018.
“Banten is located near the main market, Jakarta,” said Minister Arief when visiting Tanjung Lesung Beach Hotel and Resort, Pandeglang regency, Banten, on Monday, April 1.
Arief explained the tourist region of Tanjung Lesung will be supported with national park Ujung Kulon in a bid to achieve the target. “Ujung Kulon is currently promoting as national geopark and later Unesco Global Geoparks (UGG). That’s possible [to reach the target],” the minister said.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the minister went on, has tapped tourism as the flagship sector. “[So] all supporting infrastructures must be constructed,” he said.
According to Arief, supporting tourism infrastructure must be built to reach the target, such as toll road and airport projects to ease tourist access to Pandeglang.
Meanwhile, to rejuvenate the tsunami-affected regions in the coastal areas of Sunda Strait, the ministry has established 49 programs related to human resources, marketing, and destination.
“We hope the renovation program will complete within six months,” said Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.
