Nusantara Satu Satellite Succeeds to Orbit above Papua

2 April 2019 14:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nusantara Satu satellite owned by PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) is successfully orbited at 146 degrees east longitude or right above Papua province as scheduled. Currently, the satellite is undergoing the final in-orbit test, and the technical indication shows a sound condition.

After being launched on Friday, February 22, 2019, at 08:45 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) from Cape Canaveral, Florida, United States, Nusantara Satu is now ready to provide information technology across Indonesia.

“With the spirit of ‘Uniting Indonesia’, Nusantara Satu satellite has performed well and ready to operate as to provide equal access of internet for all Indonesians,” said PSN president director, Adi Rahman Adiwoso, during the satellite launching ceremony on Monday, April 1.

Adi pinned hope the operation of Nusantara Satu satellite could overcome the existing internet gap. At present, some 3,000 villages have been connected by PSN, and up to the end of 2019, the figure is expected to increase to 10,000 villages. So by 2020-2021, around 25,000 villages could obtain access to the internet.

“We believe that Nusantara Satu can open broader access of information technology, especially for people living in various outskirt regions, and so it can open opportunities to the region’s economic acceleration,” Adi concluded.

Nusantara Satu is the first Indonesian broadband satellite using High Throughput Satellite (HTS) that provides a larger capacity of internet service compared to the conventional one. This satellite is able to orbit and operate for over 15 years.
