TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) conveyed their stand on the issue of abstention in the upcoming 2019 general elections, locally known as “golput”.
PSI considers the phenomenon of people not voting for either candidate is a direct response to the failures of existing political parties, which is why PSI will not force people to not abstain.
“For those that choose to be golput, no, we will not call you cowards, wishy-washy, or call you with any other derogatory call names,” said PSI spokesman Kokok Herdhianto Dirgantoro in a press release on Tuesday, April 2.

Furthermore, PSI took time to quip another group of men and women which according to Kokok was only able to complete 5 out its initial goal of completing 50 Draft Bills (RUU).
“Not meant to offend, it’s just a reminder,” said Kokok, which clearly refers to a group of legislators.
Despite tolerating abstention or golput, the recent addition in Indonesia’s political party sphere announced it will constantly attempt to convince people to actively engage in the democratic right to vote.
