Bitung SEZ to Serve Industry, Exports, Logistics

TEMPO.CO, Manado - The Special Economic Zone of Bitung is designated to serve as an industrial, export and logistics development zone. The North Sulawesi Industry and Trade Office chief, Jenny Karouw, said that the development zone would stand on an area of 534 hectares.

According to Jenny, the core business development in Bitung SEZ would be for coconut processing and fisheries, various industrial fiber logistics.

"The pharmaceutical industry will use local raw materials such as nutmeg plants," Jenny in Manado, Tuesday, April 2.

Yesterday, President Joko Widodo inaugurated three Special Economic Zones and two student apartments at once at Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado. One of the SEZs was Bitung.

The government continues to fast-track construction of Bitung SEZ's supporting infrastructure, including the Bitung International Hub Port and the Manado-Bitung Toll Road.

The Manado-Bitung toll road project is underway and targeted to open in October 2019. The toll road will have a capacity of 14,000 vehicles per day.
