ICW Slams Jakarta Council Members Not Reporting Their Wealth

2 April 2019 09:51 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Coordinator Adnan Topan Husodo firmly stated that the Jakarta Council (DPRD) members who have yet reported their wealth are people with a bad track record.

The disobedience on handing over their wealth via electronic wealth reporting (LHKPN) system, he said, will become a threat that needs to be closely monitored in the wake of the 2019 legislative election.

Adnan asserts that the public must reconsider whether it would be wise to elect a legislative candidate who is not willing to report their wealth to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

“That would mean their track record is bad. How could they become a public official is the rules of LHKPN reporting is not adhered to,” said Adnan when Tempo reached him on Monday.

He underlined the fact that LHKPN is one of KPK’s instruments to confirm a legislator is or has not participated in any form of corruption. Legislative members refusing to report their wealth has been a deep-rooted problem, says Adnan, but is driven by the absence of any legal consequence.

KPK reported that 50 Jakarta Council (DPRD) members have reported their LHKPN, which is less than half compared to council members that amount to 106 people from 10 political parties.
