TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In a meeting with East Java’s religious and public figures, Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanyo reminded the public to turn differences into a collective strength.
“This is the reason why the nation’s founders named Bhinneka Tunggal Ika as our motto, unity in diversity,” said Hadi in a written statement on Monday, April 1.

Hadi argues that human resource development in conjunction to maximizing its natural resources can only be achieved if every people in the country unite. He made that clear by stating the fact that Indonesia consists of hundreds of ethnic groups, local languages, culture, and religion.
“We are now in a quite regrettable era where tolerance has stepped back, harmony has slowly diminished, and our unity under threat,” said the TNI Commander.
