TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Voxpol Center Research and Consulting political analyst Pangi Syarwi Chaniago thinks that both presidential candidates performed admirably in the fourth presidential debate held on Saturday last week.
However, he said there were several notes for both incumbent Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Prabowo Subianto. According to Pangi Syarwi, opposition’s Prabowo Subianto is able to perform aggressively against Jokowi’s ideas and policies without resorting to personal attacks.
“Prabowo stole the highlight of the majestic debate stage this time,” he said in a written statement on Monday.

On Jokowi’s programs, he pitched in the debate such as “dilan” or “digital and serve” and another program he named to attract millennial generation such as his “public service mall”, which Pangi said was fitting for the incumbent’s personality.
He maintains that the fourth presidential debate did not see a reoccurrence of their previous showdown that seemed to have their roles mixed up. However, as a note for the incumbent, Pangi maintained that; “[Jokowi] should have performed even better by promoting his records and ‘success stories’ for the past 4.5 years in office.”
He also noted that Prabowo tended to resort to the offense in the latter stages of the debate which implied a lack of emotional control and repel rational voters and reestablish swing voters he could have attracted.
