TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gubernatorial Decree (Pergub) as a legal basis to set the tariff of MRT Jakarta has yet to be issued to date despite the city’s first subway will start its commercial operation on April 1, 2019.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that he was waiting for a letter from the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) to issue the Pergub. “We will draft the Pergub right after we receive a letter from the council,” said Anies in Central Jakarta Mayor office, on Thursday, March 28.
The MRT tariff adjustment triggers polemic as the city administration and the council had a different perception on the matter. Jakarta initially proposes an average tariff of Rp10,000 calculated based on the distance between each station, while the joint leaders meeting of DPRD set a tariff of Rp8,500 per 10 kilometers.
A day after the meeting, Anies Baswedan visited DPRD speaker Prasetio at his office to discuss the MRT tariff. The meeting between Anies and Prasetio with the head of DPRD's commission C overseeing financial affairs, Santoso, concluded the signing of MRT tariff scheme.
Recently, the deal between Anies Baswedan and Prasetyo gained protest from several members of DPRD. They considered it an illegal deal as it was not decided in the joint leaders meeting. Regional legislators demanded another meeting to discuss the tariff of MRT Jakarta.
