Semarang to Host 2019 ASEAN School Games in July

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is preparing to host the 11th ASEAN School Games (ASG) in Semarang, Central Java. ASG is an annual game for secondary schools student-athletes in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ assistant deputy for sports science and technology, Washinton Galingging, led a meeting of Chef de Mission (CdM) with delegations of ASEAN School Sports Council (ASSC) and 10 country participants in Ciputra Hotel, Semarang, on Thursday, March 28.
“Welcome and thank you for coming to Semarang, Central Java. I hope all participants can enjoy the city,” said Washinton before audiences.

The meeting that was attended by ASSC chairman Ong Kim Soon talked about the preparation of the 11th ASG to be held on July 17-25, 2019, including the schedule, opening ceremony, match competition, and venues.
The ten countries participating in the games are Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia. Student-athletes will compete in 9 sport branches, namely Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Sepak Takraw, Swimming, Tennis Court, Table Tennis, Volleyball, and Pencak Silat.
Semarang Youth and Sports Agency head, Gurun Risyadmoko ensured his city will continue to prepare for the ASEAN School Games. “The preparation is going well, such as the venue; [it] has no problem, except one venue for swimming in Jatidiri Stadium that is currently under renovation, and Inshallah it will be finished within two months,” Gurun said.
