TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Transjakarta will buy 400 medium-sized buses. The buses are scheduled to operate this year.
"The mid-size buses are known as the Mini Trans, which have the size of a Metromini or a Kopaja. Our target is to add around 400 units of those this year," Transjakarta president director Agung Wicaksono said in Jakarta, Thursday, March 28.
The bus procurement was based on the decision of the Jakarta Transportation Agency. The new buses will be distributed to old bus companies like Metromini, Kopaja, Kopami and Koantas Bima. The new buses will replace the old ones currently still running on Jakarta's roads.
The buses will be owned by said operators. Transjakarta will act as the service user, making a payment based on distance—per kilometer. The system is expected to increase the bus crew's income.
"They will no longer need to chase after passengers. They will have a routine income as a wage," he said.
