TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Manpower M. Hanif Dhakiri defended President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s administration from allegations claiming Jokowi’s leadership caused job scarcity for Indonesians.
He responded by stating that the current administration managed to create 10 million job opportunities.
“Pak Jokowi’s 4.5-year tenure created 10.5 million job opportunities and the majority of that was in the formal sector,” said Hanif in the ASEAN Oshnet in Yogyakarta, Thursday, March 28.
Minister Hanif maintained that the government initially targetted the goal to be reached in 5 years, but it was able to be achieved under that time frame.
He then broke down the existing problem in the current unemployment rate, which he argues is not the availability of jobs but skills disparity in its human resources. Out of 131 million workforces existing today, 58 percent of them are Junior High and Primary school graduate.
The Manpower Minister said that out of 10 workforces, there are six lower education graduates while four of the rest have a greater chance to access the available job opportunities.
