Google Provides More Security to 2019 Election Sites

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Internet product and service company Google supported Indonesia election by releasing a number of programs and products aimed at protecting sites related to the 2019 general elections, said Google Indonesia Public Policy and Government Relations, Putri R. Alam.
Putri explained that sites of the General Election Commission or KPU (kpu.go.id), the Election Supervisory Board or Bawaslu (Bawaslu.go.id), president.org, and Cek Fakta (cekfakta.com) have been secured with project shield that able to ward off attacks of distributed denial of service (DDoS).
“We focus in tackling disinformation,” said Putri in a discussion at Kaum Jakarta in Menteng, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 27.

Google Indonesia Head of Corporate Communication, Jason Tedjasukmana, said that Google called on several vital websites to register to project shield, free service provided by Jigsaw. “Media news sites, sites of human rights organization, election watchdogs, and non-profit organization are allowed to join in,” Jason said.
Moreover, Jason continued, Google News has special pages displaying the most trending reports that are arranged based on top themes, such as law, economy, security, human development, and governance, the Twitter update containing latest news from national media, and full coverage feature that shows verified facts.
Additionally, Jason added, Google provided support in five sessions of the fact check established by Cekfakta.com and its 24 trusted media organizations during the election process.
