TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) have yet come into an agreement in light of the council plan to ban PUBG or Player Unknown's Battlegrounds and other similar online games containing violence.
“We have not made any decision yet,” said the ministry’s director general of application and informatics, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, after the discussion on Tuesday, March 26, in Jakarta.
The meeting about MUI’s haram fatwa or edict against PUBG was also attended by psychologists and e-Sports association.

According to Semuel, the meeting did not merely talk about PUBG, but online games in general. So a more comprehensive meeting would likely be held in the future with other institutions including game developers to study this issue.
The MUI`s fatwa commission secretary, Asrorun Ni’am said that participants in Tuesday’s meeting agreed to optimize the positive side and reduce the negative impacts of online games.
“We have agreed to set restrictions for games causing negative impacts,” Asrorun said, adding that prohibitions are valid for games containing pornography, gambling, deviant sexual behavior, and other things prohibited by religion or law.
