TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Incumbent presidential candidate Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called for his supporters to wear white upper garments at voting locations on April 17’s presidential election to match with the dress code of the all-white clothing campaigned by Jokowi – Ma’ruf Amin.
“Don’t forget to wear white shirts on April 17 to vote for candidates wearing white. Because we are white, white is us,” said Jokowi in the public campaign at the Bukit Gelanggang field in Dumai City, Riau today, March 26.
Other than visual uniformity, Jokowi revealed another reason to wear white clothing. He said that this type of clothing is often sold at an affordable price for most Indonesians.
The incumbent’s public call seemed to be scoffing at their rival, Prabowo Subianto – Sandiaga Uno, opting to wear a complete set of suits as their presidential election image.
"Suits are expensive, and suits are the clothes of Europeans, Americans. Indonesians should suffice by wearing white clothes like what I am wearing now," said Jokowi, which was followed by cheers from supporters.
During the campaign event, Jokowi called on people to remind their neighbors to vote in the upcoming Indonesia election.
