Muhammadiyah: 1 Ramadan Falls on May 6, 2019

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central executive board of Muhammadiyah announced the result of its isbat (confirmation) meeting on the determination of Ramadan, Syawal, and Dzulhijjah 1440 Hijri.
Through a circular letter, the second largest Muslim organization has tapped the first day of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan starts on Monday, May 6, and first Syawal on Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

As referred to the letter uploaded to its official website Muhammadiyah.or.id, the meeting result was concluded based on the hisab (reckoning) method by Muhammadiyah central executive board’s tarjih (lawmaking) and tajdid (reform) councils.
“Ijtimak (the consensus) decides that Ramadan 1440 Hijri begins on Sunday, May 6, 2019, at 05:48:25 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).” Meanwhile, the first day of Syawal or Eid el-Fitr falls on June 5, 2019.
The circular letter on the determination of the first day of Ramadan was inked by Muhammadiyah chairman Haedar Nashir and secretary Agung Danarto in Yogyakarta, on March 16.
