TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lingkar Madani executive director Ray Rangkuti said the concept of an open campaign would not have a significant effect on attracting voters for either presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2019 presidential election.
“An open campaign only solidifies the voters. It will only ensure their choice once they meet the political figure they idolize,” Rangkuti told Tempo in Central Jakarta on Monday.
Rangkuti said the solidarity of voters was already high in both camps, which is backed by the data of a recent Kompas survey that showed 87-88 percent voters’ solidity of both presidential camps.

“The only chance for a presidential candidate to boost their votes is by attracting undecided voters,” said Rangkuti. “Even the undecided voters are solid.”
Kompas survey reported there were 13.4 percent undecided voters in Indonesia. Ray Rangkuti said the votes that could be won by Jokowi or Prabowo’s camp are at a maximum of 3 percent.
