Airfare Hike; Homecomers Prefer to Use Land over Air Transport

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry predicted the bus operation during Eid homecoming period will jump up to 20-25 percent following airfare hike when compared to the previous year.
“This year is the rising era of the bus because of pricey flight tickets,” said the land transportation director general Budi Setiyadi when met in TMII, on Sunday, March 24.

According to Setiyadi, people have much consideration to use bus transportation to return to their hometown. In addition to airfare hike, the travel time from Jakarta to cities of West Java and East Java is shortened as the operation of Trans Java Toll Road.
According to Budi, Trans Java toll effectively reduced the travel time up to 5 hours. From the capital city to Solo in Central Java can be reached within only 7 hours, Budi mentioned.
Moreover, 2019 saw more units, including AKAP, tourist bus, and AKDP which was amounted to 50,317, up from 2018’s 49,613 buses.
Budi Setiyadi further said that the growing number of bus units and public demands on the bus must be in line with the bus treatment and drivers as well.
