TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT MRT Jakarta is starting to design MRT phase III construction project that covers a 31-kilometer long track from Kalideres in West Jakarta to Menteng in Central Jakarta.
“We are just preparing the design, the funding is yet to be ready,” said MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar in the HI Roundabout area, on Sunday, March 24.
William explained that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was ready to provide loan for MRT phase III. However, PT MRT is still considering other options in light of project financing.

William mentioned JICA would grant a loan of Rp22.5 trillion for the second phase of MRT Jakarta or Ratangga which is connecting HI Roundabout and Kota Tua. This project has eight stations in Sarinah, Monas, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota Tua.
According to William, the second project would have similar facilities as those of in the first one. But he promised to improve the integration system with surrounding buildings in station areas. “We will maximize buildings adjacent to stations and construct the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) as well.”
If the project can be completed within the set target, William continued, MRT Jakarta phase II construction will finish in 2024, while the third project is expected to start next year. “If MRT phase III construction goes smoothly, it will complete in 2025 or 2026,” he added.
