20 March 2019 12:04 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - IBB Astra UD Trucks Regional Head Hendro Priyo Purnomo revealed that more than 50 percent of trucks across Indonesia are operating illegally, he believes that one of the most common practice is violations on chassis size standards.

“There is more than 50 percent that is exactly like that in general [not just at UD truck]. However, we are referring to category 3 and 4 trucks,” said Hendro to journalists present at Sunter yesterday.

Illegal chassis modifications have been long known publically as a kept secret among trucking businesses despite strenuous regulations issued by the Indonesian government.

He argues that elements of violations come in the form of illegally elongating a truck’s chassis that is meant to enable the vehicle to carry more loads in rural areas where vehicle-roadworthiness test (KIR) are less routine.

The compliance of light-duty trucks (LDT) on the other hand, he said, has seen improvements in its number of regulatory compliance.
