PLN Restores Power in Jayapura in Sentani Flood Aftermath

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State power company PLN's Papua and West Papua branches have restored power-generating ability at 69 of the 104 electricity substations that went down. The electric substations were affected by the floods that hit the Sentani district of Jayapura.
"After the disaster, 5.2 MW of power load was not supplied to the public. Now there are around 1.7 MW left," PLN general manager for main units in Papua and West Papua, Ari Dartomo, said on Tuesday, March 19.

Ari said that power had been restored at roughly 66% of the electricity substations that went down. Some areas that have not been covered for maintenance include Depapre and Genyem. PLN officers were unable to reach the areas as the roads there had been cut off.
"The flood on March 18 resulted in several road access being cut off," he said.
Ari said that the flash floods also damaged several transmission towers of Genyem-Sentani SUTT 70 kV. This causes power distribution to be diverted via the 20 kV Medium Voltage Network.
"Ninety-three PLN officers have been dispatched to fix and restore the electricity system affected by the Sentani flood," he said.
