Earthquake Hits Nganjuk; No Tsunami Warning

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nganjuk Regency was shaken by a tectonic earthquake on Tuesday, March 19, at 17:34 West Indonesia Time. The information was conveyed by I Nyoman Sukanta, Head of the Yogyakarta Class I Geophysics Station through a written statement last night.
"The BMKG's initial analysis shows that the earthquake had a magnitude of 3.5 with its epicenter located at 7.87 South Latitude and 111.93 East Longitude on land, roughly 10 kilometers southwest of Kediri, East Java, at a depth of 5 kilometers," the statement read.

Based on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, said Nyoman, the earthquake was categorized as a shallow earthquake due to local fault activity.
"So far, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake," Nyoman said.
He added that the results of BMKG's monitoring as per 18:00 showed that there had been no aftershocks. He reminded the public to remain calm and not provoked by unverified information, and only look for updates from the BMKG`s official channels and social media accounts.
