TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced that the government has secured funding up to Rp571 trillion to develop mass-transportation across Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek or the Jakarta Greater Area).
This decision was announced in a limited meeting at the presidential office on Tuesday, March 19. The allocated funds will be disseminated along its planned 10-year construction plan.
“We decided to complete the 10-year construction project with investment reaching up to Rp571 trillion,” said Jokowi while participating in the MRT Jakarta trial-run on Tuesday, March 19.

Moreover, Indonesia’s central and regional Jabodetabek administrations have agreed to form a new agency that will be tasked to supervise the accelerated transportation construction program.
“This would enable the project to be flexible, the construction will not be bureaucratic and can be done swiftly. This is so that the Rp571 trillion can be implemented soon without any complicated bureaucracy,” said President Jokowi.
The Jakarta administration is also eyeing to work in conjunction with the central government in search of an alternative sponsor to avoid overburdening the State Budget (APBN).
