TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In a joint meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR), Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Susi Pudjiastuti quipped about DPR’s use of disposable plastic water bottles. Susi recorded the moment on video that was later shared to her official Instagram account.
Minister Susi used the recess in between the DPR meeting on Monday, reminding them to reduce their use of disposable plastic bottles. She maintained that the government needs to be a good example for members of the public.

In the video she uploaded, Susi Pudjiastuti compared the contrasting policies applied at the Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Ministry (KKP) which already bans the use of disposable water bottles and imposes a large fine for whoever violates it.
“The DPR can implement it, we all can, at the KKP bottles like these are already banned, I impose an Rp500 thousand fine,” said Minister Susi in the video.
Susi Pudjiastuti also reminded people at the meeting of the country’s inability to properly recycle disposable plastic bottles, and that 70 percent of those bottles will end up as ocean waste.
