TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice presidential candidates Ma’ruf Amin and Sandiaga Uno did their best to explain their plans to solve the issue of productive age unemployment rate in the presidential debate’s final session on Sunday, March 17.
Ma’ruf Amin opted to continue the speech from Jokowi in Bogor a while back and promised to introduce three special cards, which include a pre-employment card that will help financially provide for unemployed people for 6-12 months before obtaining a job.
He also said that his team, if elected, will fight unemployment through a structural and non-structural solution of Indonesia’s education system. He plans to do that by reforming the lower-level of education up to the higher educations at universities.
“We will push for the emergence of a cyber-university,” explained Ma’ruf Amin.

In contrast to Ma’ruf Amin, Sandiaga Uno explained his solution to the unemployment problem. He argues that this issue roots back to the incompatible system between job seekers and job providers.
“The main issue we see is the lack of link and match,” said Sandiaga Uno in the VP debate.
Another solution to the matter offered by Prabowo Subianto’s running-mate is to establish the “ready for workhouse” program that shares the concept of a co-working space that will act as a location to meet job seekers with employers.
“There we will provide and see training activities and coffee shops,” said Sandiaga Uno who also promised to reduce 2 million unemployment in 5 years for millennials.
