Overwhelming Media Spotlight, Siti Aisyah Taken to Safe House

15 March 2019 16:14 WIB

President Joko Widodo received Siti Aisyah, a former suspect in the murder case of North Korean Leader's half brother Kim Jong Nam, at the presidential palace, Jakarta, welcoming her back to Indonesia on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Some South Korean lawmakers said the North Korean regime had ordered the assassination of Kim Jong Nam, who had been critical of his family's dynastic rule. Pyongyang has denied the accusation. TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Serang Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Firman Affandi has shed light on the whereabouts of Siti Aisyah following the latter’s disappearance from her residence in Serang, Banten.

Firman said Aisyah was presently in a safe house in Jakarta to eschew reporters, who had been flocking to her house upon her arrival on Tuesday night, March 12, 2019.

Siti Aisyah was released from detention in Malaysia after two years and 23 days after prosecutors dropped their charges on her alleged involvement in the murder of  North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s half-brother Kim Jong-nam. The prosecutors said they lacked evidence.

The press have been after Siti Aisyah for further statements on the murder charges in the wake of her release. When she arrived at her house on Tuesday night, Aisyah went straight into her house without talking to the press, saying she was exhausted.

Firman said Siti Aisyah was complaining about the presence of journalists outside of her house—some of them spent the night there—and that she felt trapped in the house.

“That was her complaints, so she asked the Foreign Affairs Ministry to pick her up again the next day,” Firman said on Friday, March 15, 2019.
