TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Elections Committee (KPU) formed a team dubbed "Peace Committee" for the presidential debate on March 17 that will specially handle any ruckus during the debate.

“This committee was created as a precautionary measure to any possible ruckus that may spark during the debate,” said Wahyu Setiawan, KPU Commissioner at Hotel Sultan in Jakarta today, March 14.

The six-man team consisting of two representatives from the Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin camp and two from the Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno camp, which is joined by one KPU member and one member of the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

The peace committee is mainly tasked to maintain order among supporters present during the presidential debate.

“The committee is authorized to expel any supporter sparking disorder. Why? Because this debate is not just for the 500 people in the debate venue but for the interest of the entire Indonesian population,” Wahyu asserted.

The March 17's presidential debate will see vice presidential candidates Ma’ruf Amin and Sandiaga Uno face each other throughout four segments.
