TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan plans to hold a meeting to discuss the government’s stance in light of the recent crash of a Boeing 737 Max 8 jetliner belonging to Ethiopian Airlines.
Two national airlines are presently operating the Boeing 737 Max 8: flag carrier Garuda Indonesia and low-cost carrier Lion Air.
“I cannot comment any further on the Boeing 737 Max 8. I spoke to the Transportation Minister last night, we’ll receive the latest report tomorrow morning,” Luhut said at Shangri-la Hotel on Monday, March 11.

The New York Times reported earlier that China’s government had officially grounded all Boeing 737 Max 8 fleets run by domestic carriers since last night. This comes as a direct response to the crashed Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-320 that used the same type of aircraft from Boeing.
In the meantime, the Transportation Ministry’s air transport directorate general will conduct strict supervision of every airline flying the Boeing Max 8 and take improvement measures following the tragedy .
