Sleman Tourism Agency Supports Volcano Run 2019

Volcano Run

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Sleman local government expressed its support towards the 2019 Volcano Run scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 10, 2019. The competition is aimed at promoting Mount Merapi as one of the region's tourism destination.

Sleman Tourism Agency head Sudarningsih made the statement during the Volcano Run launching event on Thursday, March 7, at Jogja City Mall.

Sudarningsih said that the sports tourism event was expected to bring positive impact to tourism development in Mount Merapi and its surrounding regions, both in the economic sector or the increase in tourist arrivals.

The running competition was established by the Jogja running community named #Uburuburlari with support from the Sleman Tourism Agency and TEMPO Media Group as the main sponsor. The competition consisted of three categories; 21K, 10K, and 5K Family Fun Run. The start and finish point were placed at the Museum of Mount Merapi (MGM).

The Volcano Run organizing committee head Handiwa Thariq, praised participants who are ready to take part in the competition. According to Handiwa, more than 2500 people had registered to join competition.
