TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi sent a special message to the Hindu community across Indonesia who are commemorating the Day of Silence, or Nyepi.
Jokowi uploaded a caricature of himself wearing Balinese traditional cloth on his social media account.
"Happy New Years' Day Nyepi Saka 1941. To all my Hindu brothers and sisters who are today away from the hustle and bustle of desires, escaping from anger, envy, and jealousy, to silence to discover identity ..." Jokowi said in his Instagram post on Thursday, March 7.
Ahead of Nyepi Day of Silence, Jokowi received a visit of the boards of Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI) at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, March 5. PHDI chairman Wisnu Bawa Tenaya said the visit aimed at reporting the Nyepi Day commemoration and inviting the president to attend the Dharma Santi event in April.
President Jokowi said the Nyepi Day should be performed in order and secure.
